Nanox incorporates nanotechnology applied to cancer drugs

It is a nanostructure developed and transferred by CEPROCOR and CONICET capable of transporting cancer drugs to tumor cells. In the next phase, Nanox Release Technology S.A will advance in clinical instances, production and marketing together with expert researchers.

Nanox Release Technology S.A, a leading company in the field of pharmaceuticals of high know how within the field of nanotechnology, specified the incorporation of an innovative technological platform applied to oncological drugs. Developed and transferred by CEPROCOR (Center of Excellence in Processes and Products of Córdoba) and CONICET (National Council of Scientific and Technical Research), it is a nanostructure capable of transporting the drugs directly to the tumor cells.

The licensing of this jointly owned patent is the result of several years of research within the framework of the Bioscience Program of CEPROCOR. Now, Nanox aims to advance in the clinical and production phases so that this precedence becomes an important route for the treatment of certain types of tumors.

The mechanism is based on the development of miscellanies that have the property of transporting and protecting oncological drugs of habitual use, as the case of Paclitaxel or Cisplatin, and directing them to the area of tumor location, which can multiply the efficiency of those medicines with lower quantities supplied and, consequently, reduce the adverse effects of its administration.

Preliminary tests performed in vitro in vivo have given surprising results, not only in inhibiting metastases but also in reducing the size of the primary tumor; so the patent is being considered as of high interest of application at international level. At this point, Scientific Phd explained technical aspects of his development and expressed: «Technological innovation is based on trust». Likewise, he stressed that «the link between a private company and trajectory scientists such as CEPROCOR is only possible if there is trust.»

For his part, Mr. Adriano Petrecca expressed his satisfaction at having reached this instance in the process towards innovation and stressed that «Nanox will accompany with its greatest efforts the national and international development of this new technology.»

The licensing was carried out in the Civic Center of the city of Córdoba with the presence of the Minister of Science and Technology of the Province representing CEPROCOR, Dr. Walter Robledo, and the President of Nanox, Mr. Adriano Petrecca. In addition, Dr. Dora Celton, Director of CONICET Córdoba; Mr. César Martinelli, Vice-President of CEPROCOR; and the directors of the institution, Dr. William Darbyshire, Dr. Ismael Bianco and Bioq. Esp. Nancy Passalaqua.

Also present were the Undersecretary of Innovation, Transfer and Technological Linkage of the National University of Córdoba, Dr. Pablo Manzo; the Director and Deputy Director of the Hospital Domingo Funes, Dr. Gustavo Dellamaggiore and Dr. Carlos Borgatelllo; the Director of the Oncology Hospital of Córdoba, Dr. Martín Alonso; the Director of Research and Development of the company PROMEDON, Mr. Osvaldo Griguol; Dr. César Yammal of Innovos Group; authorities of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Health and CEPROCOR; references of institutions of science and technology of Córdoba, researchers and representatives of CONICET.
